Workers Comp & Disability Insurance
In most states, Workers Compensation Insurance and Disability Insurance are compulsory — that is, they will fine you if you don’t have it. These two types of insurance policies work very differently than other types of insurance. Most policies are designed to protect the assets of the owner, but Workers Compensation Insurance and Disability Insurance are designed to protect the employee. Workers Compensation will pay medical expenses, pain and suffering and lost wages on behalf of the employee while that employee was injured on the job. Disability insurance pays lost wages on behalf of an employee due to an injury sustained while not on the job. Most states have a maximum time limit that a Disability policy will pay while a Workers Compensation policy will pay indefinitely.
